Das IQWiG ist ein unabhängiges wissenschaftliches Institut, das Nutzen und Schaden medizinischer Maßnahmen für Patienten untersucht. Es informiert laufend darüber, welche Vor- und Nachteile verschiedene Therapien und Diagnoseverfahren haben können. Das IQWiG publiziert alle Ergebnisse in Form von frei zugänglichen Berichten, Rapid Reports (Schnellberichten), Arbeitspapieren sowie allgemeinverständlichen Versionen dieser Produkte und richtet sich damit sowohl an Fachleute und Akteure aus dem Gesundheitswesen als auch direkt an Bürgerinnen und Bürger.
Internationale Gesellschaft für HTA-Fragen. Health Technology Assessment (HTA) bzw. Medizintechnik-Folgenabschätzung bezeichnet einen Prozess zur systematischen Bewertung medizinischer Technologien, Prozeduren und Hilfsmittel, aber auch Organisationsstrukturen, in denen medizinische Leistungen erbracht werden. Untersucht werden dabei Kriterien wie Wirksamkeit, Sicherheit und Kosten, jeweils unter Berücksichtigung sozialer, rechtlicher und ethischer Aspekte. Das Ergebnis einer HTA-Studie wird in der Regel als HTA-Bericht veröffentlicht.
Das Deutsche Institut für Dokumentation und Information (DIMDI), hier speziell die Deutsche Agentur für Health Technology Assessment (DAHTA@DIMDI), beauftragt umfassende Berichte zu HTA (Health Technology Assessment).
