Die geplanten Massenentlassungen im öffentlichen Dienst haben erneut zu Protesten in Griechenland geführt: Angestellte an staatlichen Schulen, Finanzämtern und Krankenhäusern sowie Journalisten beteiligten sich an den auf 48 Stunden angesetzten Streiks.
Mit landesweiten Streiks protestieren Tausende Griechen erneut gegen den Sparkurs der Regierung. Sie laufen Sturm gegen Kürzungen und Kündigungen. Die Polizei fürchtet, dass die Wut in Gewalt münden könnte. Auf Kreta wählten die Demonstranten diesmal einen ganz anderen Weg.
Konjunkturflaute und Schuldenkrise haben die Erwerbslosigkeit in der Eurozone auf einen Höchststand getrieben. Im November waren 18,8 Millionen Menschen ohne Arbeit. Am schlimmsten ist die Lage in Griechenland und Spanien. In ihrem Sozialbericht warnt die EU-Kommission vor einer Spaltung Europas und empfiehlt Mindestlöhne.
