Den Flüchtlingen hätte schneller geholfen werden können, sagt die Bürgermeisterin von Lampedusa. Doch die "unmenschlichen" Gesetze Italiens und Europas hätten dies verhindert. Politiker diskutieren nun über eine Reform der Asylgesetze.
Die EU wisse wie man Migration abwehre, nicht aber, wie man die Lage der Flüchtlinge verbessere, sagt die Migrationspolitische Sprecherin der Grünen, Keller. Im Interview mit dem <em>nachtmagazin</em> fordert sie, die EU-Grenzüberwachung zu nutzen, um Flüchtlinge zu retten.
Politisch gehört Lampedusa zu Italien - geografisch aber zu Afrika. Die Insel liegt nur 138 Kilometer vor der tunesischen Küste und ist damit Anlaufziel für viele Afrikaner auf ihrer Flucht nach Europa.
Nach ihrer Flucht aus Afrika lebten sie in Italien, ehe die Behörden dort die Aufnahmelager schlossen: Nun haben sich 300 Flüchtlinge nach Hamburg durchgeschlagen, wo sie auf der Straße leben - und bislang vergeblich auf Hilfe hoffen.
Er muss Unvorstellbares durchgemacht haben auf seiner zweijährigen Flucht von Somalia bis nach München. Jetzt fürchtet der 19-jährige Abdulkarim die Abschiebung nach Italien, wo ihm laut Hilfsorganisationen Obdachlosigkeit, Prostitution und Gewalt drohen. Schuld ist "Dublin II", ein umstrittenes europäisches Abkommen. Auch andere Flüchtlinge berichten von menschenunwürdigen Zuständen in Italien.
