The goal of Simple is to bring the power of simplicity to the world of server side Java. The primary focus of the project is to provide a truly embeddable Java based HTTP engine capable of handling enormous loads. Simple provides a truly asynchronous service model, request completion is driven using an internal, transparent, monitoring system.
This allows Simple to vastly outperform most popular Java based servers in a multi-tier environment, as it requires only a very limited number of threads to handle very high quantities of concurrent clients. Simple has consistently out performed both commercial and open source Java Servlet engines and has a fully comprehensive API that is as usable for experienced Java developers as it is for beginners. Best of all, Simple is completely free, and is released under the terms of the GNU Lesser General Public License, LGPL, which ensures its availability for use by open source and proprietary developers alike.

Metawidget takes your domain objects and automatically creates User Interface components for them, saving you handcoding your UIs and leaving you to concentrate on stitching together your application.
As much as possible, Metawidget does this without introducing new technologies. It inspects, at runtime, an application's existing back-end architecture (such as JavaBeans, annotations, XML configuration files) and creates components native to its existing front-end framework (such as Swing, Java Server Faces, Struts or Android).
Metawidget does not hide the power of your existing User Interface framework from you and guarantees that your investment in its technology and knowledge is as valid as always. The LGPL open source license allows the use of Metawidget in open source and commercial projects.
AjaxToaster is built on XMLToaster and inspired by the "guerrilla SOA" philosphy. It gives you the power to easily create JSON & XML based CRUD services for your web applications. It runs as a servlet in an app-server or with its own standalone server.
The XAware project provides real time data integration with a service-oriented flavor. XAware makes other tools and frameworks much more productive by hiding data complexity behind "XML views". XML views span any number of data sources, and can read data, write data, or transfer data between sets of sources, all within a distributed transaction.
MXQuery - a low-footprint, extensible XQuery Engine
XQueryP is implemented to allow easier application development by extending the XQuery Update facility, which is also implemented in MXQuery.
The engine uses a very low memory footprint (both in code size and runtime data requirements) to be able to run on low-powered devices. This is achieved by using restricted type support, streaming data processing and a efficient token-based representation of XML.
Overview
Vexi is a platform for creating and publishing Graphical User Interfaces that can be used over the Internet or an intranet. It features a very simple and powerful syntax based on xml and javascript, a set of complete, extensible, themable widgets, and a sandbox-like security model to protect users.
Why Vexi?
Vexi is designed to overcome the flaws of other Internet application platform implementations.
Vexi applications are written in a combination of XML and JavaScript. The XML layout makes UI structure simple to understand, and the JavaScript provides a powerful way of manipulating a UI to make it dynamic. Do not confuse JavaScript with the HTML DOM - the latter gives JavaScript a bad name because of it’s over complicated nature. JavaScript is very easy to understand and work with. And whilst XML is a far reaching standard, the context in which it is put into practise with Vexi makes it very easy to understand and work with.
Apache CXF is an open source services framework. CXF helps you build and develop services using frontend programming APIs, like JAX-WS. These services can speak a variety of protocols such as SOAP, XML/HTTP, RESTful HTTP, or CORBA and work over a variety of transports such as HTTP, JMS or JBI.
State Chart XML (SCXML) is currently a Working Draft published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). SCXML provides a generic state-machine based execution environment based on Harel State Tables. SCXML is a candidate for the control language within multiple markup languages coming out of the W3C (see Working Draft for details). Commons SCXML is an implementation aimed at creating and maintaining a Java SCXML engine capable of executing a state machine defined using a SCXML document, while abstracting out the environment interfaces.
The Beryl XML GUI library was written to ease the development of graphical user interfaces using Swing on Java. It lets you store user interfaces as XML markup. This will help you avoid unnecessary clutter in your source - Swing code mixed with application logic can become a troublesome and hard to read mess as the application size increases. The library comes with a visual component builder, which makes development a breeze. The most important features are:
DynamicDOM is an extension of the W3C DOM (Document Object Model) that adds dynamism to XML. For example, it allows you to define rules so that when you change, say, the TotalIncome node, the IncomeTax node updates automatically.
Just as C++ adds code to the C struct to create a class, DynamicDOM adds intelligence, in the form of rules and code, to the DOM to expand its capabilities beyond parsing XML documents to processing and enforcing business rules. Your XML document, then, becomes dynamic in the sense that it contains rules and code in addition to data, and updates itself automatically based predefined rules.
The Milyn Project is building Open-Source Java components for XML and non-XML Processing.
Smooks
Smooks is a Java framework for managing and performing Fragment Based XML Processing (Transformation/Analysis).
Smooks can be used in conjunction with or as an alternative to XSLT for XML Transformation.
Smooks gives you more control when performing XML Transformations and Analysis by giving you the freedom to use the tools and programming languages most appropriate to the type of transformation in question (or your skillset).
* Mix and Match different tools and languages in the process of transforming a single message/document e.g. it may be easier to transform one part of the document using pure Java and another part using XSLT.
* Simplify your XSLT and StringTemplate Templates by combining the power of the Smooks Javabean and Templating Cartiridges.
* Analyse/Read your XML and non-XML data into named Javabeans using the Smooks Javabean Cartiridge.

The Synapse project is a robust, lightweight implementation of a highly scalable and distributed service mediation framework based on Web services and XML specifications.
Dopus is a Docbook publishing framework. It was designed with portability and extensibility in mind. Dopus can run on any Windows or Unix platform that supports Java.
Dopus was developed during a project for T-Systems Germany. T-Systems generously agreed to open source the newly developed parts of Dopus (Ant script and Docbook customization layer) for which we are very gratefull.
We have agreed to host Dopus here on our website as a free product we want to give back to the Docbook community. The Dopus framework is distributed under the GNU General Public License. The various parts of the Dopus framework are distributed under their respective (free) licenses.
Dopus is still pretty young but is already used in various projects.

Codehaus XFire is a next-generation java SOAP framework. Codehaus XFire makes service oriented development approachable through its easy to use API and support for standards. It is also highly performant since it is built on a low memory StAX based model.

OpenXava is a framework to develop easily business applications with XML and Java. Its virtue resides in the fact that the heart of our applications is XML instead of Java. For example, if you want a J2EE application that works with Teachers you only need
JiBX is a framework for binding XML data to Java objects. It lets you work with data from XML documents using your own class structures. The JiBX framework handles all the details of converting your data to and from XML based on your instructions. JiBX is designed to perform the translation between internal data structures and XML with very high efficiency, but still allows you a high degree of control over the translation process.
