Jeff Jarvis fasst seine Ideen über Lokaljournalismus in der Zukunft (Information einer Community über das lokale Geschehen) ausführlich zusammen. Ein Anlass war die New Business Models for News-Veranstaltung in New York (CUNY) im Herbst. Grundlegende These: Der Journalismus im Netz ist kollaborativ. News-Organisationen/Redaktionen werden sich verkleinern, dafür arbeiten sie mit der Community zusammen und untereinander arbeitsteilig. Finanzierung meist aus Anzeigen, gelegentlich aus öffentlichen Mitteln. Zdum Link-Journalismus gehört auch, dass man auf Links angewiesen ist, um Aufmerksamkeit zu erhalten. Daher wird der investigative Journalismus weiterhin eine zentrale Rolle spielen. Weitgehend überflüssig ist die "commoditization of news", das einfache Um- und Neuschreiben. Überflüssig wird auch der Agenturjournalismus, bei dem der Ursprung einer Nachricht nicht transparent ist.

Mark Glaser gibt einen Überblick über hyperlocal-Sites in den USA. Klar ist, dass es außerhalb von Synergien mit Print-Publikationen noch keine funktionierenden Geschäftsmodelle gibt.
Sehr interessante und detaillierte Übersicht über Googles Technik zur lokalen Suche, bei der es vor allem darum geht, strukturierte Daten aus den unterschiedlichsten Quellen zu extrahieren.
