Re: How migrate vmware guest to xen Hi, It's possible with the qemu tools Install the qemu package (which is available from the OpenSuSE Build Service) and use the following command: qemu-img convert -f vmdk /path/to/vm01.vmdk -O raw /tmp/xenimage.raw This will create a raw disk which can be used with xen from a VMware vmdk disk.
VMware to xen migration German original: http://www.eisxen.org/49.html To convert a Linux VMWare Image to a normal image, below the most important commands: install qemu convert the VMware image to a RAW-Image qemu-img convert -f vmdk /var/vmware/vm/vm01.vmdk \ -O raw /tmp/vmimage.raw A vmware imange is a containerfile. The partitions have to be spilt up to individual images for xen. To find out what is in the VMware image, take a look with: fdisk -l -u /home/xen/vmimage.raw Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System linux1 * 63 208844 104391 83 Linux linux2 208845 7550549 3670852 83 Linux linux3 7550550 8193149 321300 82 Linux swap I presume there are already some lvm’s available. Now use the command below a couple times to extract them dd if=vmimage.raw of=/dev/vg01/xendomU01slash bs=512 skip=208845 count=7341705 Of course, check the result (with a (loop)mount)
if you have already uploaded the .vmx and .vmdk, then you are half way there. In ESX 3.0, you'll need to make sure that these files are on the vmfs file system. Simply register the VM using vmware-cmd -s register /path/to/.vmx and it should show up in your VI Client.
The Thinsy Alfresco 3 for Active Directory is a Virtual Appliance that takes the monstrous complexity out of installing and configuring an Alfresco system. It enables you to bring up Alfresco for Active Directory in a matter of minutes! Download a virtual appliance, and fire up the VM. Full GUI Configuration is included in the virtual appliance. You will not need to log into the underlying linux system to perform any administration tasks.
I have written many administration guides which cover all of the VMware Enterprise Products (ESX, vCenter, P2V). They have been created in a PDF format.
VMware will release future versions of vCenter, its flagship virtualisation-management software, in Linux versions as well as for Windows, the company's chief technology officer said on Wednesday.
If you're reading this, you already know the news: XenServer, our enterprise virtual infrastructure platform is now free (including resource pooling and live relo), and we have announced Citrix Essentials for XenServer, and Citrix Essentials for Hyper-V as our virtualization management portfolio that offers a rich set of automated functions that drive the compatible virtualization layers beneath - the free Hyper-V hypervisor from Microsoft, and the free XenServer Enterprise virtual infrastructure platform from Citrix. Finally, and most importanly, we announced a powerful go-to-market roadmap with Microsoft.
For those of you that didn't know the latest Nevada build or open Solaris supports iSCSI targets. It looks like it maybe a bit more complete than the IETD project this implementation. This implementation supports RESERVE/RELEASE which I'm told is very important when using vmotion to prevent data corruption. I must say setting up the Solaris side is very easy. iscsitadm create target -z 10g -b /export/home/test test
Network and Identity Configurator for Linux® (NICL) is a tool that enables easy changing of the system name and network address of Linux systems and IBM middleware. It employs a BASH script that can save multiple man-months in system configuration time. This tool was developed within IBM for administrating an internal block of Linux systems. For example, a typical system involves managing a multi-server VMware ESX environment, and that involves the creation of many possible different virtual servers and Linux configurations.
The VMware Infrastructure 3 Online Library—ESX Server 3i Installable Edition provides product documentation for ESX Server 3.5, ESX Server 3i version 3.5 Embedded, ESX Server 3i version 3.5 Installable, and VirtualCenter 2.5 software
VMware Server (formerly GSX Server) is an entry-level server virtualization solution which is proprietary, freeware software. VMware released version 2.0 beta of Server on July 1, 2008. VMware Server offers virtualization benefits such as:
A version of Solaris that is known to work with the instructions in this wiki is Solaris Express Developer Edition (last checked for version 5/2007). You can find it here: http://developers.sun.com/sxde/
P2V stands for Physical to Virtual. In other words, it is the process or procedure of moving a running system (operating system and everything installed) from a physical machine to a virtual machine.
