At Thinkmill, monorepos have proven to be a very useful model for organising our projects. We’ve written some articles and resources to help you explore this space.
I have been using git for a while, and I took the time to learn about it in great detail. Equipped with an understanding of its internals and a comfortable familiarity with tools like git rebase — and a personal, intrinsic desire to strive for minimal and lightweight solutions — I have organically developed a workflow which is, admittedly, somewhat unorthodox.
GitHub flow is a lightweight, branch-based workflow that supports teams and projects where deployments are made regularly. This guide explains how and why GitHub flow works.
Git is essential version control technology for developers, data scientists, and product managers to understand. GitHub is the most popular remote registry for your remote Git repositories. It hosts…
Purely functional code makes some things easier to understand: because values don't change, you can call functions and know that only their return value matters—they don't change anything outside themselves. But this makes many real-world applications difficult: how do you write to a database, or to the screen? In this screencast we look at one method for crossing this divide.
If we want to make the web better for people then the most important thing that we can do is to learn the basics. Not of technology, but of our fellow humans. Because, as we’ve show earlier, empathy is the most important skill that a developer can have. Our job is 100% about people, about our fellow humans. How can we do an amazing job for them if we don’t understand who we are building for?
This post is a summary of my research on building Go projects in a Docker container on CI (Gitlab, specifically). I found solving private dependencies quite hard (coming from a Node/.NET background) so that is the main reason I wrote this up. Please feel free to reach out if there are any issues or a submit pull request on the Docker image. Dep As dep is the best option for managing Go dependencies right now, the build will need to run dep ensure before building.
Continuous Integration (CI) is a software development practice that is based on a frequent integration of the code into a shared repository. Each check-in is then verified by an automated build. The…
