Abstract

The article reports that the American InterContinental University (AIU), Atlanta, Georgia, a for-profit college, is under federal investigation for pumping up enrollment while ignoring education. The U.S. Justice Department and the Securities and Exchange Commission are investigating Career Education Corp., the country's second-largest chain of for-profit colleges, that purchased AIU's seven U.S. and foreign campuses in late 2000.
