Issues of the respiratory, gastrointestinal, cardiovascular, and hematologic systems as well as nutrition are reviewed. An outline of preoperative screening tests and a discussion of common medical issues should help the surgeon prepare the child with neuromuscular scoliosis for spinal reconstructive surgery.
