Abstract

Here is the first of a four-volume set that constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 12th International Conference on Human-Computer Interaction, HCII 2007, held in Beijing, China, in July 2007, jointly with eight other thematically similar conferences. The 133 papers of this first volume are organized in topical sections on interaction design: theoretical issues, methods, techniques and practice; usability and evaluation methods and tools; understanding users and contexts of use; and models and patterns in HCI. The 513 revised papers presented in the four volumes were carefully reviewed and selected from numerous submissions. The papers accepted for presentation thoroughly cover the entire field of Human-Computer Interaction, addressing major advances in knowledge and effective use of computers in a variety of application areas.
