Abstract

Adds to the notion of a conceptual ecology: (1) the learner's motives and goals for understanding the subject matter and the social and institutional sources of those goals; (2) the student's conceptions and misconceptions. Further: (a) Conceptions may be held at varying levels of articulateness; (b) Conceptual ecologies need to be viewed in developmental and interactionist terms.
