Target- Orientedness In Translation Studies: A Case Study On The Translations Of 'The Tell-Tale Heart' By Edgar Allan Poe

Abstract
This article presents a criticism of two different translations of the short story "The Tell-Tale Heart" by Edgar Allan Poe in the light of the target- oriented approach. As Poe's unique style and peculiar principles of writing make his works complicated to analyze, the overview of Poe's style given in the first place will better explain the challenges of translating Poe writings, particularly his short stories. Later, the evaluation of the two translations will be done through the target-oriented approach which determines and describes translator's decisions, in other words, "the norms of the translator" in the translation process. A brief stylistic analysis of Poe's above mentioned work will be given before the criticism of its two different translations in terms of the coupled-pairs and the outcomes of the analysis are presented.
