Case-Base Maintenance

. Proceedings of the 11th International Conference on Industrial and Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence and Expert Systems, Berlin, Springer-Verlag, (1998)

Abstract

As case-based reasoning systems are deployed in real-world situations the issue of case maintenance becomes more and more critical. Uncontrolled case-base growth can cause serious performance problems as retrieval efficiency degrades and incorrect or inconsistent cases become increasingly difficult to detect. This paper surveys recent progress in the area of knowledge maintenance, and proposes a novel, competence-based maintenance policy for case-based reasoning systems.
