The paper describes a new instrument for the measurement of the thermal conductivity of electrically conducting liquids at pressures up to 500 MPa. The instrument is based on the transient hot-wire principle in which the tantalum sensor wire is electrically insulated from the fluid by means of a thin layer of its own oxide. The instrument is capable of an accuracy of ± 0.3\% in the measurement of thermal conductivity. Preliminary measurements reported for water are consistent with recent recommendations, but are more accurate.
