Traffic on a complex networks: the case of the Web

, , , and . Abstract Book of the XXIII IUPAP International Conference on Statistical Physics, Genova, Italy, (9-13 July 2007)

Abstract

The Web has become a paradigmatic example of complex network, both from an empirical and theoretical point of view. Although a multitude of studies have addressed the issue of its topological structure, comparatively little is known about the traffic it supports. In this study we relate experimental traffic data with the topology of the network and the probability for a node to acquire new links. In particular we describe how the use of search engines influences the traffic and what consequences this has or may have on the mechanisms of Web growth.
