Abstract
Equations are developed in terms of the Lockhart-Martinelli correlating groups for the friction pressure gradient during the flow of gas-liquid or vapour-liquid mixtures in pipes. The theoretical development differs from previous treatments in the method of allowing for the interfacial shear force between the phases; some of the anomalies occurring in previous “lumped flow” models are avoided. Good agreement with Lockhart-Martinelli empirical curves are obtained. Simplified equations for use in engineering design are also given.
