IMPROVEMENT OF GROUNDING PROPERTIES BY USING BENTONITE

, , , and .
(1982)

Abstract

Before bentonite was successfuly applied to ~rove grounding it was first necessary to test its performance in the laboratory with regard to its specific resistance, its capacity to absorb and retain the ooisture, its corrosive effect, the effect of the low and the high terrperatures, aging and the capability of absorbing precipitation when ~er is used. Another very ~rtant property of bentonite is its resistance to short circuit current and lightning current. 'lhe research work perforrred on test sites in karst and sandy terrains yielded factors relating to decrease of grounding wire and rod resistance and she7tled resistance as dependent on rreteorological conditions and the depth of installation,
