Abstract
The paper describes the research work, tests and
other efforts carried out to design a new 500 kV,
1650 Km long Transmission System.
After analyzing weather data, ultimate design loadings
were defined.
Other studies were made to optimize tower type, span
and conductor system.
For tower selection, studies compared standard guyed
and rigid towers, as well as crossarmless types such
as the cross rope suspension tower.
Modular design principles were applied, obtaining op•
timum use of the capacity of each component.
