Abstract

Differences between signed and spoken language and between Deaf and hearing communities may affect the nature and practice of sign language/spoken language interpreting and hence the nature of interpreter education. The University of Durham postgraduate courses on interpreting between British Sign Language (BSL) and English are profiled in this article against the background of debates and changes occurring within the sign interpreting profession and the Deaf community in Britain.
