Explaining Conspiracy Theories in Modern Arab Middle Eastern Political Discourse: Some Problems and Limitations of the Literature

Abstract

The article discusses the problems and limitations of the conspiracy theories in modern Arab Middle Eastern political discourse. Conspiracy theory in the Middle Eastern context is the non-existent version of a conspiracy, while conspiracist is someone who detect dangerous forces at work wherever something displeases him. One example of event that occurred and led to the emergence of conspiracy theory is the terrorist attacks in New York and Washington D.C. on September 11, 2001. It notes important points of divergence in the Middle Eastern case which includes the role of the state as narrator and the unique and complex social and economic transformations that have impacted to the society.
