Abstract

The theoretical study on epidemic dynamics can be made in several distinct ways, namely mean field models with the use of differential equations; theory of percolation, which tries to model the contact network in a given population and its role on the propagation process; and, most recently, by means of agent-based models. This last approach tries to understand what role agents’ mobility amongst the population plays in the epidemic dynamic. This research presents different velocities distributions and interaction laws in a agent-based SIS model (Susceptible-Infected-Susceptible), where there is no acquired immunity an any infected subject becomes susceptible again after a certain period of time – the infection period. Such epidemiological structure can give a stationary solution – endemic state - which depends on the velocity distribution an interaction law.
