This paper gives an overview of the various features that current learning design tools support and discusses the required ones that will make these tools more appealing to the teachers. Factors that discourage teachers from using these tools are the lack of both user friendly graphical notation and the non support of a layered approach to learning design. Thus this paper proposes to build learning design tools following the concept of the “separation of concerns” that stems from the principles of web engineering.
