Abstract

The findings are based on fifty-six interviews with managers responsible for EWCs. These findings are thus based on the largest dataset yet compiled comprising exclusively interviews of managers responsible for EWCs. By comparison with the entire population of MNCs with an operational EWC, the MNCs in which these managers are based are skewed towards private sector services, large companies and those operating with Article 6 EWCs. Companies within the research sample convene plenary and select committee meetings more frequently than is the case among all EWCs. Care should thus be taken in the interpretation of the results of the research, as the interviewees are based in companies that are not representative of all companies with an EWC. Although management employ a wide range of practices towards EWCs, in most cases there is evidence of a ‘learning curve’ as managers develop the institution to meet the requirements of the company.
