Factors contributing to the under-representation of women in physics-based engineering fields

.
(1998)

Abstract

From 1995 to 1998, Women's Programs in Engineering at Cornell University conducted a "Physica Anxiety" study. Funded by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, this research project examined the reasons why women more than men tend to stay away from physics-based engineering fields, opting for more the natural science- and mathematics-based engineering fields. The research includes data collected from students at eight engineering institutions across the country. Based on the findings. recommendations doe addressing the recruitment and retention of women to physics-based engineering fields have been developed.
