Abstract
The margins of the Arava Rift, from the Dead Sea to the Gulf of Elat,
have been investigated in the last five years by combining several
methods previously not utilized in this area. These investigations
included new surface geological mapping, as well as several seismic
reflection surveys, accompanied by a detailed study of two continental
units: the Miocene Hazeva and the Pliocene-Pleistocene Arava formations.
These investigations led to the identification of several new structural
features within this segment of the rift, which is characterized
by a series of elongated en-echelon tectonic basins. The depths of
these basins, which are filled with clastic sediments, vary from
several hundred meters to a few kilometers.
