Abstract
The reduction of wind loading on
the transmission line conductor is a major design
factor from the standpoint of economical construction.
To realize this reduction, the authors
investigated the surface drag coefficient of
various kinds of conductor models, by means of
wind tunnel experiments, and have succeeded in
obtaining some empirical formulae. And using
these formulae, we have developed special surface
configuration which gives a 40% reduction in drag
coefficient, compared to that of ordinary conductors,
at the maximum wind velocity used for the
design of overhead lines in Japan.
