Le développement des démarches qualité a débuté au XXe siècle dans le secteur industriel, puis dans les services, avant de s'étendre à l'évaluation des politiques publiques, au monde sanitaire et au secteur médico-social et social. Cet article, élaboré à partir de différentes sources institutionnelles, présente un panorama des démarches qualité en santé centrées sur les établissements de santé, les professionnels de santé et les secteurs de santé non hospitaliers.
Dans le cadre de la prochaine procédure de certification dont les visites débuteront en 2010, la HAS a élaboré la version pilote du Manuel V2010 sur lequel une large relecture associant l'ensemble des parties prenantes est en cours jusqu'au 16 juin 2008.
La deuxième version de la procédure de certification vise à renforcer l'évaluation du service médical rendu au patient en s'attachant à étudier plus en détail le parcours du patient dans l'établissement et les actions mises en oeuvre par les différents professionnels. Parmi ces actions figure l'évaluation des pratiques professionnelles (EPP).
