Gute Nachrichten verkündet die Leiterin der Ludwigsfelder Stadtbibliothek Gundula Bretschneider im 60. Geburtsjahr der Einrichtung. Nachdem vor zehn Jahren der Computer die Karteikarten im Bücherkatalog ablöste, können jetzt auch die Leser von zu Hause aus den mittlerweile 30 000 Medien umfassenden Bestand durchforsten.
Anders als in Europa, wo das Geld für die Kultur noch immer großenteils aus öffentlichen Kassen kommt, die mit ruhiger Hand und in sicherer Distanz vom Auf und Ab der Börse verwaltet werden, leben Opern, Theater, Museen und Bibliotheken in den USA zum größten Teil von Spenden.
