Special TTIP reading room to opened for MPs
The UK government has announced its plans to open a special ‘TTIP reading room’ where MPs are able to read the negotiating texts of the controversial trade deal being negotiated between the EU and the USA – the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP).
Ein großer Kritikpunkt am Freihandelsabkommen TTIP war bislang die fehlende Transparenz. Nun sollen Abgeordnete von Bund und Ländern Medienberichten zufolge Einsicht in geheime Verhandlungsdokumente erhalten. So wolle das Bundeswirtschaftsministerium die Akzeptanz für das Abkommen stärken.
Parlamentspräsident Norbert Lammert sichert den Parlamentariern "uneingeschränkten Zugang" zu. Die Grünen fordern nun eine schnelle Umsetzung des Versprechens.
Am Montag (20.4.2015) startet in den USA die 9. Verhandlungsrunde zum Freihandelsabkommen TTIP. Am Samstag davor wird mit einem internationalen Aktionstag darauf aufmerksam gemacht und dagegen protestiert. Von TTIP-Befürwortern im Umfeld der deutschen Regierung hörte man sinngemäß, die KritikerInnen sollten doch bitte das Endergebnis abwarten – davor wären sie einfach zu uninformiert.
Der Kommission steht eine Untersuchung der EU-Bürgerbeauftragten wegen Verwaltungsmissständen ins Haus. Der Grund: Die EU-Kommission hat sich geweigert, fünf Nichtregierungsorganisationen Einblick in geheime Dokumente zum transatlantischen Freihandelsabkommen TTIP zu gewähren. Die US-Regierung will EU-Mitgliedsstaaten nur unter Aufsicht Einsicht in Verhandlungsdokumente zum umstrittenen TTIP-Abkommen geben. Wirtschaftsminister Sigmar Gabriel fordert einen „direkten Zugang“.
