Implications for practice and research Nurses can deliver a group intervention (INT) based on interpersonal psychotherapy to prevent postpartum depression in low-income mothers.

Given the high rates of elevated depressive symptoms during the perinatal period, future research should test more preventive INTs as well as treatments.
