Abstract

Ed~y current displacement scnso~ have been used successfully to measure the standing wave ranos (SWR) of transverse waves m stranded metal cables. The difficult measurements are those of the minima. The effects of inclined transverse motions, longitudinal waves, and torsional waves on the m~ur~~cnt o~ the minima arc discussed. Adequate centering of the sensor on the axis of the cable is cnttcal; this centering is best done with conjugate sensors.
