Abstract

Cardiovascular disease continues to be the leading cause of mortality and disability in the world's population and the proportion of deaths due to coronary heart disease (CHD) is 25% to 50%. IHD is a chronic disease with a multifactorial etiology. Risk factors such as high blood pressure, overweight or obesity, hyperglycaemia and hyperlipidaemia contribute to the development of CVD including IHD.
