INSULATION LEVELS AND PROBLEMS ON INDIAN HIGH VOLTAGE LINES

.
(1982)

Abstract

The insulation desi8n of Indian hi&h voltage lines has to eater to greatly varying geographical and geopeysical conditions with a fairly high degree of reliabilitf 1 the actual line outage rate (per 1 oo km per year) for 132 kV, 220 kV and 400kV lines being less than 1.5, 1.0 and 0.4 respectively. Electromechanical tests on complete strings, more strict acceptance ratios for tests on individual discs, a test criterion to ensure less than 0.37 ?b failure rate and use of higher strength discs to compensate for strength reduction when used as complete strings, are some of the improvement measures presently llllder consideration for Indian systems.
