With this approach, the decision-making functionality is separated from the application systems and encapsulated in a personalization service. This paper attempts to evaluate the feasibility of using this approach in the real world. After a brief overview of current efforts to develop service-based approaches to adaptive hypermedia, we describe our specific implementation of this approach as personalization architecture and report the results of an extensive performance evaluation of this architecture.
