Experiences of Child Centred Design in the StoryStation Project

. Interaction Design and Children, Shaker Publishing, the Netherlands, (2002)

Abstract

A “snakes and ladders” methodology for designing an intelligent tutoring system, StoryStation, is described. An account of a successful collaboration between a team of pupils, a researcher and teachers is given, as well as an assessment of the value of this project from the point of view of the pupil team members. The user evaluation indicates that the methodology described here produced a motivating, usable and useful piece of educational software.
