We describe a taxonomy of human performance model
types and discuss some of the validation issues associated
with the various classes of models. Key distinctions are
made between models based upon a psychological theory,
input-output models, and simulations of conjectured human
behavior. We conclude by reviewing some ongoing human
performance model programs to provide a flavor of some of
the practical concerns that influence model validation
