This Paper deals with the performance qnalysis of overhead transmission lines employed in Tata Electric Companies,
Bombay, India. Input and output formats employed for this analysis are presented and their usefulness in the
evaluation of the performance are discussed. The various faults are categorised and those which have caused particular
concern are highlighted. Mention is made as to how these areas have been handled with suitable modifications in
the design to reduce fault incidences, and also the measures adopted to improve the reliability of the system by
reviewing the operation and maintenance practices in view of these findings.
This Paper stresses the need for standardisation of analysis procedures in different Utilities and the importance
of a centralised department for monitoring and ensuring a high performance of overhead lines.
