Colleges challenge web-advertising practices of big-for-profit institutions

.
The Chronicle of Higher Education, (2005)

Abstract

Officials at small colleges are unhappy with the Web advertising practices being pursued by some big for-profit institutions. Typing an institution's name into an Internet search engine can produce advertisements or "sponsored results" for competitors. Officials at Grantham University and Tiffin University are among those unhappy with this practice, complaining that Yahoo and Google searches using their names pull up advertisements for the University of Phoenix.
