SUPPRESSION OF GALLOPING FOR MEDIUM-SIZE BUNDLE CONDUCTORS BY SPACER REMOVAL OR SIMILAR MEANS

, , and .
(1978)

Abstract

Considering the behaviour of medium-size conductors during winter conditions, the shape of ice coating and the likelihood of galloping are definitely more critical for bundles with conventional spacers, than for single conductors. Accordingly, certain special bundle aängements without spacers provide a means to overcome galloping, in climatic areas where medium-size single conductors are not usually prone to galloping. The uncoupling schemes adopted allow for certain side-effects and consideration is given to some prerequisites in terms of practk:ability. Alternative devices designed for the same purpose are suited for cases where the feasibility of spacer removal is questionable.
