Abstract
Three types of anchor construction employed at the site of olym·
pie tent·type roof are described. 1. Anchor weight blocks. They we·
re used to take up vertical loads where minimum possible uplifting
of the foundation base is desired. also where heavy loads of 5000 t
are employed with small inclinations. 2. Pre-stressed concrete trench
walls of T-sect1on to take up loads of 500 to 2000 t. The inclination
of the tensile load was between 300 to 45° to the horizontal. 3.
Groups of earth anchors were employed to take up loads from 200
to 700 t whose inclination lies between 35° and 55° to the ground
surface. Problems in connection with the construction of the three
!YPes are mentioned. In case of concrete trench walls the question of
skin friction and tilting.of the stressed unit were investigated experi·
mentally In case of e~rth anchors the problem of corrosion protec·
tion and safety of the group is discussed.
