Abstract
This paper formulates the basic principles underlying the measurement and analysis
of wind-induced conductor vibration by means of the new PAVICA recorder. It
includes a comparative analysis of measurement error due to inaccurate instrument
positioning with respect to the last point of contact between the conductor and the
clamp, as recorded by PAVICA or a conventional device. The investigation also covers
the conversion of differential displacements to bending stresses as well as an estimation
of the probability of wire failure when the conductor lifetime is calculated according
to the CIGRE method.
