Abstract
Stories have always been part of human culture, and although
civilization has passed through several changes (cultural, evolutionary, etc.),
they remain inside and around us. Each of us can be seen as a narrative agent,
who can perform or use narrative in a multitude of ways, such as: we can tell a
story; we can use narrative to story everyday life’s events; we can use narrative
to understand what surrounds us; and most important, we are the protagonists of
our lives stories. Taking these facts into account, it is quite straight forward to
imagine the application of narrative in a learning context, and why not maths?
In this paper, we explore the idea of teaching early mathematical concepts in a
narrative oriented learning environment, and discuss the possible advantages of
using such an approach.
