Abstract
Silicone rubber housed non-ceramic insuUdors were
studied after field aging in various service enviromnents for
periods offram 7 years to more Iluut 10 years. The coniJitfun of
the aged silicone rubber was compared to that of new material,
,:usin.g on the characteristics of hydrophobicity recovery and
contaminant encapsulation by low molectdarweight polymer. The
jie1ii aged materials are shown (0 exhibit hydrophobicity characteristics
comparable to those of new, unaged silicone rubber.
