Abstract
Galloping of overhead lines is a serious problem in many parts of
the Soviet Union because of the long cold winters and the vast expanses
of open terrain. The possibility of electrical outage and mechanical
damage during severe galloping is a continuing threat to line
reliability and continuity of service in those areas. Galloping
countermeasures either in use or under test include: aerodynamic
stabilizers; inertial dampers; interphase separators; and ice melting
facilities.
