Abstract

The article reports that after the end of the Cold War the enormous power and pervasive influence of the U.S. is universally acknowledged to be the defining feature of world affairs. The book "The Case for Goliath: How America Acts as the World's Government in the 21st Century," explains the American influence on other countries. The U.S. furnishes services to other countries, the same services, as it happens, that governments provide within sovereign states to the people they govern. The U.S. therefore functions as the world's government.
