Abstract
With the purpose of a valid evaluation of the
reliability and, hence, service life of high voltage
power lines in mind, the mechanical behavior of
stressed cable specimens has been investigated.
First, the elastlc prope~ties, strength as well
as creep behavior were compared to those of
stranded wires. After establishing the stress mechanism
including a stress criterion, suitable
~ethods could be developed for analyzing endangerment
by aeolian vibratjons. The evaluation of the
damping characteristics was au~mPnted through the
use of ~echano-electrical analo7ues. Recommendations
re~arding improved reliability are given
for the construction of new installations.
