Abstract
In a recent Institute paper I, the authors presented experimental
results on spacer compression, which showed clearly,
that the simplified analytical calculation method used today, the so
called Manuzio formula 2, leads to severe underestimation of
spacer compression and thus to faulty spacer design. In this paper,
~urther test results are presented covering today's practical range of
QJundle configurations, subspan lengths, sagging tensions and shortcircuit
levels for transmission lines. Based on these results, the authors
present here a new calculation method for spacer compression,
which builds up on well accepted IEC standards 3, 4.
