AN INVESTIGATION OF THE FORCES ON BUNDLE CONDUCTOR SPACERS UNDER FAULT CONDITIONS

Abstract

The knowledge of the maximum compressive forces acting on bundle cond\J.ctor spacers under fault conditions is essential to the rational design of their structural strength, The results of a wide investigation carried out both theoretically and experimentally are shown in the report; relationships are stated which permit the computation of the max- 1 imum forces in terms of all the involved line parameters and for any given fault current and duration, To reach results of general validity, the behaviour in time of the compressive force under given fault current has been explored; this proved to be of essential importance for understanding the dynamic phenomenon and for expressing it in correct mathematical form. It has been found that fault current and fault time must be individually con- Aidered for the determination of the maximum forces on the spacers and cannot be cumuWlfated into one single parameter, as has been proposed, . The mathematical model proposed for the investigation of the dynamic actio~ has shown a very satisfactory agreei:nent with the experimental tests,
