Abstract
A comprehensive analysis of all the mechanical forces which may be applied to an overhead
line or substation, and to which the insulators may therefore be subjected, is beyond the
scope of this book. This chapter does, however, serve to describ~the ty£e~s ()fjgads
which must be considered, which of these are the most critical for the different insulator
types, and the basic principles of their calculation. The way in which the mechanical
characteristics are specified and the terminology used are also explained.
