Tests on sinqle phase runs SO and 240 aa Al, 12 kV cables qave good coherence between electro• agnetic forces and movements of cables. Short-circuit tests on trefoil configurations with total fault time of 1 sec. require very small tie spacing to withstand the thermomechanical and electromechanical forces. Test on single core cables laid in trefoil with a peak value of 110 kA and r.m.s. current of 56 kA for half a second indicated that a tie spacinq of maximum 0.3 m is required. Further tests are planned to provide background for national guidelines for cable installations.
